GELITA MEDICAL was founded in 1999 as GELITA Medical B.V. In 2010, the decision was taken to integrate GELITA MEDICAL, a wholly owned subsidiary of GELITA AG, into the parent company’s structure. In February 2011, all products and processes of GELITA Medical B.V. were transferred to GELITA MEDICAL GmbH.
In early 2023, the Board decided to discontinue the GELITA MEDICAL business. Since then, all activities have been focused on the orderly wind down of the business.

GELITA’s priority is to ensure those impacted by this decision remain informed at every step in this process, and therefore the website will stay live until such time as there is no longer any product with shelf life and beyond, as applicable. Our vision is to leave a legacy as a global innovation leader in biocompatible medical devices.

GELITA-CEL® Product Family

The GELITA MEDICAL Cellulose Hemostat Device Family includes several topical hemostats made of absorbable oxidized cellulose, intended for achieving local hemostasis during a wide range of surgical and minimally invasive procedures. They are supplied in different forms (gauze or fibrillar) and sizes, as shown in the table below. These devices are indicated for use as an adjunct to hemostasis by tamponade effect, particularly where control of capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding, by pressure, ligature, and other conventional procedures, is ineffective or impractical. The whole GELITA-CEL product Family is discontinued. GELITA MEDICAL just continues with the activities to monitor the remaining products with shelf life in the market.

GELITA-CEL® STANDARD

Absorbable Oxidized Cellulose Gauze Hemostat is a sterile, biodegradable, knitted gauze, prepared by the controlled oxidation of cellulose. It is made of 100% oxidized cellulose. It is intended for use as a topical hemostat and serves as a hemostatic adjunct in the control of hemorrhage. The gauze is white and can be sutured or cut.

GELITA-CEL® X-SORB

Absorbable Oxidized Cellulose Gauze Hemostat is a sterile, bio-degradable, high density, thicker knitted gauze, prepared by the controlled oxidation of cellulose. It is made of 100% oxidized cellulose. It is intended for use as a topical hemostat and serves as a hemostatic adjunct in the control of hemorrhage. GELITA-CEL® X-SORB can be used to control heavier capillary, venous or arteriolar bleeds, owing to its greater density, and tensile strength. The gauze is white and can be sutured or cut. 

GELITA-CEL® FIBRILLAR

Absorbable Oxidized Cellulose Non-Woven Hemostat is a sterile, biodegradable, non-woven layered material, prepared by the controlled oxidation of cellulose. It is made of 100% oxidized cellulose. It is intended for use as a topical hemostat and serves as a hemostatic adjunct in the control of hemorrhage. The material is white, has very high flexibility, and can be used to control bleeding over a large area, in surface applications, irregularly shaped bleeding sites, or in areas that are difficult to access; the material can be tufted or peeled into layers as required. The fibers continue to adhere to one another; there is no uncontrolled dispersal over the wound site.
